Why breast feeding is essential ?

..

Breast feeding is a milk feeding directly to baby from mother's breasts. Babies have a sucking reflex which enable them to suck and swallow milk from mother breasts. Breasts milk is made from nutrients in the mother's bloodstream and bodily stores. Breasts milk has the right amount of protein, fat, sugar and water, which needed for baby's growth, development and prevention of diseases.  The composition of breasts milk changes depending  on how long the baby nurses.

Not breasts feeding significantly increase the risk of  large number of acute and chronic diseases including infections in lower respiratory , urinary tracts, ear, becteremia, etc.

Breasts feeding is the cost effective way of feeding the baby.New born baby who are immediately in contact with skin of mother provides a form of  imprinting that makes subsequent feeding significantly easier and improve mother-baby interaction and keeps baby warm.

Breast feeding mothers have a less risk of breasts cancer, ovarian cancer including many other health risk..

Why not breast feeding ?

Some  gynecologist may be skilled in  safe delivery  but may not  have adequate knowledge about  breast feeding techniques.  They ask to purchase any of  formula milk of their choice to feed the  new born baby and then they  leave the clinic soon after the delivery. Their job is finish.

As baby starts bottle feeding and become habituated with the powder milk and with soft silicon nipple, baby refuse to suck harder breast  nipple when provided later.

Breast feeding is very essential for both new born baby and mother but  reality is that,  lot of babies  not sucking breast milk and demanding  powder milk in bottle due to ignorance of the gynecologist . As a result, mother gradually tends to be incapable  to produce enough  milk  for her baby and depends on bottle feeding. Breast milk  is nutritious and disease preventive which is suitable in nature. On the other hand powder formula milk is risky and costly, that create extra burden in the family also.

What to do

Baby should be kept always on breast as soon as baby born either in normally or surgically. Generally the medications mother uses may be found small portion in breasts milk  which is not harmful for baby.

After  the baby is born, milk may not come out of breasts immediately. It may take from  few hours to few days depending on baby's demand. Baby come in the world with built in food in stomach by nature for immediate survival for a certain time. When feel hungry after few hours or a day,  baby try to find food in breasts and start sucking nipple and aerola. The bite and suck of baby stimulates inside the breasts and send signal by breast  to brain to release milk., hence, breast start releasing of milk as per baby's  demand and attempt to get it.

Exception:

When baby is delivered with the placenta from womb, mother's internal body take action to supply milk naturally. But if placenta is not removed completely from womb due to surgical fault or any other reasons, milk supply may be disrupted. In that case powder milk should support the baby during the treatment of mother and  until the mother is cured. But in such cases, purchased milk should be given by spoon and not by bottle.
